COOPER WINGERT TO LECTURE DURING CIVIL WAR DINNER CRUISE AUGUST 24, 2013

Harrisburg, PA – Cooper Wingert, the teenaged Civil War historian and author, is the guest lecturer for the Harrisburg Area Riverboat Society’s renowned Civil War Dinner & Lecture Series on Saturday, August 24, 2013 aboard the famed paddlewheeler, the Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat.  The cruise runs from 6PM to 8PM.

Wingert, who has already gained notoriety for his research, writings and public presentations, is the author of four books about the American Civil War, with particular emphasis on the local area’s role in the conflict.

His lecture topic follows this emphasis and is titled: “The Confederate Approach on Harrisburg, Gettysburg, and More” and promises to fascinate resident and visitor alike with little known facts about what really happened locally in June and July, 1863, which culminated in the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1-3, 1863.

The August 24 cruise begins with a full course dinner, followed by the lecture presentation.  Reservations are required.  The riverboat cruises the Susquehanna River during the program.  Tickets are $42.00 per person and are available in advance at 717-234-6500 or at HarrisburgRiverboat.com.  Reservations are required 72 hours in advance.  The riverboat leaves from its Harrisburg City Island dock.  City Island parking is available for all attendees.

Riverboat Society Chairman Jeff Tinsman said, “Nearly everyone in America knows about the Battle of Gettysburg that occurred 150 years ago.  Not many know the rest of the story about Confederate troops penetrating many parts of the Midstate in anticipation of what was to be an attack on Harrisburg.  We commemorate the extraordinary service, sacrifice, and history of 150 years ago with our Civil War Lecture and Dinner Program and invite all to attend.”

The Riverboat Society is also offering fun and interesting Civil War Themed Murder Mystery Dinner Cruises throughout the season as well. Check the website or call for further information!

The riverboat, now in its 25th Anniversary Season, is a non-profit, tax-exempt entity providing public and specialty cruises, events and activities along and on the Susquehanna River, which flows from New York State to Maryland.
